Art lovers should head to The Minories for two new exhibitions of paintings and sculptures.
The two shows began today at the gallery in Colchester’s High Street and features the work of two artists, Paul Helliwell and Clare Iles.
Paul Helliwell’s exhibition, titled “... and wine and teeth and...”, features a range of vivid paintings by the artist that employ motifs including giant paint brush marks, hair, images from children’s colouring books, teeth, promotional fast-food figures and water pistols.
The exhibition runs until March 8 and a preview will be held tonight from 6 - 9pm.
Another burst of colour comes from an exhibition by Clare Iles multicolouredrawingsculptures which will run until February 22.
The show will present new work by the artist: her brightly coloured sculptures have been developed from intensely coloured drawings in sketchbooks that have in turn been inspired by journeys to Jerusalem and India.
The gallery is open from 10am until 5pm, Monday to Saturday. For more information call 01206 712437.
