A former scout has published a book celebrating the first 100 years of Scouting in the Halstead district.

Stephen Sudbury, 60, a former Gosfield Scout, Scout leader and District Commissioner, compiled and self-published the 440 page book, titled “The First One Hundred Years” following the centenary of the Halstead and Colne Valley District Scouts.

Mr Sudbury, of Greenfields in Gosfield, said: “It was our centenary back in 2010 and somebody suggested we need to do something to celebrate and I volunteered.

“It’s a record of what’s happened in the last 100 years of scouting in our district.

"Scouting is very much alive and well in our district, and this would not have been possible had it not been for the hundreds of Scouts who were part of our history.”
