The Environment Agency has reinstated a flood alert for the section of the River Colne from Great Yeldham to Colchester.

An alert was issued on Christmas Eve following a night of heavy rain, but was removed on December 27.

However a new alert was issued at 9am today.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: "The peak of the river is now near Earls Colne.

"Over the next 24 hours the forecast is for light rain. Further rain is forecast for later in the week which could cause river levels to rise again."

UPDATE: this flood alert was removed by the Environment Agency at 9.10am on January 3.
