His courageous battle with cancer at the age of just 13 gave his own mum the inspiration to fight - and beat - the disease too.
And now plucky teenager Sam Dore has set up a charity to help other patients by supplying teenage cancer hospital wards with magazines.
Sam Dore was diagnosed with Nasophyaryngeal Carcinoma - a rare cancer in the cavity behind his nose and throat - in October 2009.
And in a double blow for his family, Sam's mum Suzanne was diagnosed with bowel cancer just six months later in March 2010.
The mother and son supported each other as they underwent gruelling treatment in separate hospitals - and by the end of 2010 both had been given the all-clear.
And now Sam, desperate to help other sick children, has founded a charity that provides teenage cancer wards in hospitals with subscriptions to teen magazines.
