A victim has successfully appealed against the decision not to prosecute a man suspected of assaulting him at a pub.

In last week’s Gazette, Andy Baldwin appealed for witnesses who were present at the Green Man, in Church Lane, Toppesfield, on May 26.

He has since learned that police are due to issue court summons to one of the men initially arrested in connection with the incident.

Mr Baldwin, 39, who was working as a stage technician for the pub’s music festival, needed reconstructive surgery and has lost feeling in the left-hand side of his face as a result of the attack.

Although two men from the Halstead area were initially arrested, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced earlier this month there was insufficient evidence to press charges.

But, after Mr Baldwin exercised his right to review the decision, the case was examined by another CPS lawyer, who has advised Essex Police the case can proceed.
