Braintree: Warning over bogus 'council' callers
11:30am Monday 4th November 2013 in News
Braintree Council is urging residents to be aware of a phone scam.
The council was alerted today that a bogus caller had posed as a council employee over the telephone.
The caller stated that the council wished to refund money and requested bank account details so that funds could be paid directly into the account.
A council spokesman said: "Please note, Braintree District Council DOES NOT call its customers to ask for bank account details over the telephone.
"If you have any concerns or are contacted by a bogus caller, please inform Braintree District Council’s Audit Department on 01376 557821."
