A12: Southbound carriageway to close overnight for bridge repairs
12:00pm Monday 4th November 2013 in News
The southbound A12 will be closed overnight this weekend while repair work continues on a damaged bridge.
The carriageway will be closed from 9pm on Sunday to 5am the following morning under the Wellington Bridge in Hatfield Peverel.
Repair work on the bridge started at the end of July and is due to be completed by December.
A 40mph speed limit is in place, enforced by speed cameras, while the work takes place.
On Sunday night, traffic will be diverted to leave the A12 southbound at junction 20b, follow the B1137 via Hatfield Peverel and rejoin the A12 at junction 19.
In May last year, a digger, which was being carried on a low-loader lorry, struck the bridge and caused damage.
In 2010, a crane mounted on a lorry hit the bridge, causing £750,000 worth of damage.
