Halstead: Misery for families as storm leaves homes without power for days
9:06am Friday 1st November 2013 in News
Frustrated families were left living by candlelight days after power cuts plunged a host of villages into darkness.
Thousands of homes in the Hedinghams, the Maplesteads, the Colnes, Chappel, Belchamp St Paul, Wickham St Paul, Twinstead, Ridgewell, Great Yeldham, Gestingthorpe, Gosfield and Bures were left without electricity for periods of up to 80 hours following Monday’s storm.
In Pebmarsh, where the power still remained out until 1.30am yesterday, Paula Cavender and her family have spent four days wrapped up in coats and blankets.
Some parts of the village were still without power at the time of going to press.
