Braintree district: No trains between Braintree and Witham
1:49pm Tuesday 29th October 2013 in News
A fallen tree is stopping trains running between Braintree and Witham until further notice.
A replacement bus service is running instead but at this point it is not clear when normal service will be resumed.
A Greater Anglia spokesman said: "Following yesterday’s storms we had hoped to run a near normal service this morning.
"However Network Rail’s overnight investigations and repair work highlighted a number of additional problems with overhead power lines and fallen trees blocking certain routes, which have had an adverse effect on our services today.
"We apologise for the fragmented service that is being offered today, we are running as many train services as possible.
"As more sections of the route are cleared and made available to us we are working to return our services to normal as quickly as possible.
"We are also working really hard to give our customers timely and accurate information regarding our services through our website, twitter and via the media, as the situation changes minute by minute.
"We are working towards operating a more normal service for the evening peak with some exceptions on the branch lines."
Other services affected include:
Marks Tey - Sudbury
The line is currently suspended, a replacement bus service is in operation, however owing to local road closures the replacement bus service will not call at intermediate stations between Marks Tey and Sudbury
Stansted Express Services
Trains are running every half an hour.
Customers are strongly advised to allow additional time for your journey.
Customers are strongly advised to check before they travel. Customers with Greater Anglia tickets dated for travel on Monday 28th October or Tuesday 29th October can travel on Tuesday 29th October or Wednesday 30th October.
