12:38pm Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in News
The world's best cyclists will be coming to a street near you as the route for next year's Tour de France was officially announced.
The opening stages of the 2014 race will take place in Britain, before riders resume proceedings across the Channel.
The third stage of the race, on July 7, will see the race pass through Finchingfield, Rayne and Felsted.
County councillor Ann Naylor, cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, said: “Over the coming months we will be working closely with the event organisers, district, borough and city councils and other partners to confirm plans and ensure Le Tour passes through Essex safely and successfully.”
Jo Beavis, Braintree Council cabinet member for people and participation, said: “Today we found out that the Tour de France will be travelling through our district in July.
"This is fantastic news for our district and I am pleased that we can be part of this prestigious and internationally renowned event.
"Cycling has become a global sport for all ages and is a great way of keeping fit and healthy.
"With the increased popularity of the Tour it will no doubt help us reinforce our own health and well-being messages for our residents to take an active lifestyle."
