Halstead: Children's centre proposals released
4:53pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in News
Halstead’s children’s centre is set to be protected from shorter opening times and closure as part of plans to save £2.5million.
The Acorn Children’s Centre in Beridge Road, Halstead, which offers support to families with children under five, is likely to remain open for 40 hours per week and staff will also be available by telephone for an extra 10 hours.
But opening hours at Rainbow Children’s Centre in Hedingham Academy, Sible Hedingham, and Valley Children’s Centre in Park Lane, Earls Colne Primary School, are set to be reduced.
Today Essex County Council launched a public consultation on how it hopes to cut £2.5million from the children’s centre budget between 2014 and 2016.
There are currently 85 children’s centres across the county, which are open for drop in visits and services for at least 50 hours per week.
The county council plans to keep these services at just 37 sites, reduce opening hours at 37 centres and close 11.
