Halstead: Police federation admits embarrassment at lack of resources
3:00pm Friday 18th October 2013 in News
An officers’ representative admits he has been “embarrassed” by the level of service provided within the county.
Essex Police Federation secretary Roy Scanes has backed a petition by Halstead resident Simon Edney for more officers on the beat.
Mr Scanes, an officer with 31 years experience formerly based at Stansted Airport, believes any further budget cuts might mean police could no longer be able to patrol neighbourhoods.
He said: “It is the first time in Essex that the public have actually thought the number of police officers have been reduced.
“I do worry about the service to the public. I have got over 30 years service and I hear stories that embarrass me that we are not providing the service.
“There are concerns right across the board, but the federation would certainly support the member of the public with regarding to police numbers not being cut too much.
“At some point I think chief constables have got to say there are certain functions we can no longer do, whether that is neighbourhood policing or something else.”
