Halstead: Couple's Ebay puzzle turns out to be Candy Corner
1:00pm Saturday 26th October 2013 in News
A couple were delighted to discover a jigsaw puzzle bought on Ebay was of Halstead’s much loved Candy Corner sweet shop.
Rob and Helen Simpson had ordered the nostalgic Waddingtons puzzle from the auction site for 99p as a Christmas present, but realised how familiar it looked when they opened the parcel on Saturday.
It was a 1000 piece picture of Candy Corner in Head Street, Halstead, with adverts for Fry’s chocolate and a man delivering Cadbury bars to the shop.
Salesman Mr Simpson, 49, said: “I remembered Candy Corner at the top end of Halstead as a boy, as I'm sure most of your readers would.
“When we looked at the puzzle I thought that is Candy Corner and Helen said no it can’t be.
“My wife and I looked it up on Google earth, and low and behold, the puzzle illustration actually matches all the details of the real buildings, and frontages, plus even the sign for Chipping Hill is there as well.
“It's a great picture, and good to see a taste of old Halstead as it used to be, in times gone by."
