Halstead: Schoolboy Ryan is lucky charm for international footballers

A schoolboy football mascot is proving to be a lucky charm for international players..
Ryan Clancy, ten, of Ramsey Road, Halstead, won a competition to be a mascot for Wales’ World Cup qualifying match against Macedonia last Friday.
The player Ryan escorted onto the pitch at the Cardiff City Stadium was striker Simon Church, who later went on to score the only goal of the match.
Ryan had a remarkably similar experience last August, when he accompanied Scotland goalscorer Jordan Rhodes onto the pitch before a 3-1 win versus Australia.
His dad, David Clancy, 43, said: “Ryan was quite excited that he scored and he was saying afterwards, ‘I’m his lucky mascot’.
“Last year he walked out with Jordan Rhodes who scored - maybe we should start charging a fee.
“If Lionel Messi phones up and asks for Ryan, then he’s definitely going!”
