Halstead: School dismisses accusations of cheating league table system
9:00am Tuesday 15th October 2013 in News
Headteachers have dismissed a minister’s suggestion that schools are trying to cheat the league table system.
Education secretary Michael Gove has stated schools should not allow pupils to re-sit GCSEs on multiple occasions.
A new Government policy will see re-sit grades discounted from school league tables.
Ramsey Academy, in Colne Road, Halstead, is assessing its own policy of early entries in light of Mr Gove’s remarks.
Headteacher Dan Gee said: “At the Ramsey Academy, we have used early entry almost like a 'mock exam'.
“Students are able to sit the GCSE in November, but they will continue with their studies and sit the examination a second time in the summer, where they will generally go on to reach a higher grade."
