Halstead: Calls for more care options for growing elderly population
9:00am Friday 11th October 2013 in News
More needs to be done to take care of Halstead’s growing elderly population, it has been warned.
The amount of over-65s in the Halstead area is predicted to increase by more than a third by 2021.
But there are fears that health and social care services in the area are not equipped to deal with the rising demand.
Veronica Harman, manager of Halstead Day Centre, in Bridge Street, believes there needs to be more encouragement and opportunity for elderly people to come into regular contact with others.
She said: “I think lots more preventative services need to come in."
