Halstead: School says absence figures are not cause for concern
9:00am Tuesday 15th October 2013 in News
A school insists it is not concerned by the amount of parents being fined for allowing their children to take unauthorised absences.
Figures obtained by the Gazette show fines have been issued on nine occasions in the last three years at Ramsey Academy, in Colne Road, Halstead.
Deputy headteacher Calum Leys said: “We believe that the figures give a fair indication of attendance at the Ramsey Academy.
“It is our opinion that truancy is not currently an issue of significant concern.
“Where we do have concerns about a student’s absence rate we work closely with parents or carers in order to support any underlying issues and improve the situation."
