Halstead: Family raises £20,000 for leukaemia in mum's memory

A family has embarked on a series of fundraising exploits in aid of the hospital where their late mother was treated.
Ian Blamire, who lives in Pebmarsh, ran the Great North Run half marathon in memory of his mother Pat, who died from leukaemia at the age of 60.
Thanks to support from friends and employers, the family has raised more than £20,000 for St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, where Pat received treatment.
Ian, 37, who works as an insurance underwriter in London, said: “Mum was in the hospital for almost a year.
“She had to be kept in hospital for pretty much all that time, so she only had a couple of weeks at home in between treatments.
“They were so friendly and she was so comfortable there. They were like a surrogate family to her.”
