Braintree district: Council faces temporary housing challenge
5:00pm Thursday 3rd October 2013 in News
The number of families living in temporary accommodation has more than doubled within the last three years.
Braintree Council has launched its new five-year homeless strategy which aims to prevent homelessness and provide accommodation.
But the council’s cabinet member for property, Lady Patricia Newton, has warned that tackling the problem will prove “challenging”.
At the end of July, 64 households in the district were living in temporary accommodation, meaning Braintree Council failed to meet the government target of 57 or less.
Speaking at Monday’s cabinet meeting, Lady Newton said: “Temporary accommodation has become even more challenging."
