Halstead: Retirement home residents fear rehab centre plans
1:00pm Monday 30th September 2013 in News
Residents at a retirement home are fearful of the prospect of an alcohol and drug rehabilitation centre being opened next door.
Braintree Council has received notification of the intention to create the unit at Halstead Lodge, in Hedingham Road, Halstead, which could open as soon as January.
But residents at North Mill Place, in neighbouring Mill Chase, are upset at the proposed conversion of the former nursing home.
Stuart Davies, of North Mill Place, said: “Take away our boundary hedge then we become part of this site.
“It is therefore understandable that some of the elderly residents in our retirement complex are apprehensive about this proposal."
