Halstead: Fewer new homes to be built in Great Yeldham
12:30pm Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
The number of new homes set to be built in Great Yeldham has been reduced by a third.
Ward councillor Iona Parker successfully argued that the number of new homes in the village needed to be reduced from the 90 that had been planned.
Developers had put forward a site in Nuns Walk and the Hunnable Industrial Estate in Toppesfield Road as options for new homes in the village.
Ms Parker welcomed the benefits the developments could bring, such as land for a new doctors’ surgery and employment opportunities, but was asked that they be limited to providing a total of 60 homes.
She believed the best way was to find a compromise that allowed both sites to go ahead and members supported her amendment to the development plan.
But Phillip Rawlinson, vice chairman of Great Yeldham Parish Council, said: “60 homes, should that happen, would still be an 8.5 per cent increase [to the population of the village]."
