Halstead: Police change patrols to deal with weekend town centre problems
4:00pm Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
Police shift patterns are being changed to tackle problems with drunken behaviour on Friday and Saturday nights.
Residents in Kings Road, Halstead, have raised concerns about anti-social behaviour and criminal damage with officers in recent weeks.
As well as more night-time patrols, police will use a CCTV van in the area at weekends.
Sgt Dave Wright, who leads the town’s neighbourhood policing team, said: “We are changing officers’ shifts so it can be when the night-time economy finishes.
“In the meetings there was lots of concern that they felt there was a large decrease in the amount of police patrols.
“Because of the new practice with hubs there are less at Halstead, but the station and the area still has 24/7 cover.
“We have tried to make sure we direct patrols at the relevant times."
