Halstead: Singer progresses in national competition
12:40pm Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
A singer is dreaming of national recognition after progressing to the next stage of a prestigious contest.
Jerome Anthony, 33, of Edmund Green, Gosfield, has progressed to the regional final of the Open Mic UK singing competition.
Previous winners of the competition include Jahmene Douglas and Lucy Spraggan, who both made it to the live finals stage of last year’s X-Factor.
Landscape gardner Jerome said: “I will be playing a folk tenor guitar and singing one of my own songs, as I have done throughout the competition.”
If Jerome is successful in the regional final, which takes place at the Palace Theatre in Southend on October 20, he will progress to the grand final at the O2 in London.
Earlier this year, the former Honywood School pupil discovered that songs he had written were among the finalists in three of 15 different categories of the UK Songwriting Contest.
Jerome said: “I won international copyright for the songs plus other prizes.
“From this, just recently i have been contacted by a Grammy award winning producer Mitch Dane about recording and producing an EP, which is a massive step to take.”
