Earls Colne: Village picnic back with a bang
5:00pm Saturday 14th September 2013 in News
More than 350 people turned up to support a village picnic, which was held again in Earls Colne after a years break.
London Olympics 2012 and the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations meant the Earls Colne Millennium Green Village Picnic wasn’t held last year and organisers were anxious to bring the picnic, held on September 1, back with a bang.
Sheila Boyce, one of the organisers and trustees of the Earls Colne Millennium Green Trust, said: “The picnic was very successful, over £700 was raised for the Earls Colne Millennium Green Trust maintenance fund.
“We had huge queues for the face painting and henna tattoo Stalls run by Sara Brady and Raheena Rashid and lots of takers for the Splat the Rat, Hole in the Wall and Wellie Wanging competitions.
“Alan Atkinson helped children to make their own bird boxes and there was a permanent queue for this until the bird box packs ran out.
“The sun shone, the feedback was good and the organisers were very pleased with the amount of funds raised.”
