Halstead: Vet issues virus warning after outbreak in neighbouring towns
12:27pm Saturday 7th September 2013 in News
A Halstead vet is warning dog owners after cases of a highly infectious killer virus were confirmed in nearby Braintree and Witham.
Emily Nightingale, one of four vets at the Forge Veterinary Centre in Head Street, was alerted to the parvovirus outbreak and has moved quickly to warn her colleagues and clients to be on their guard.
Parvovirus, which claimed the life of a young rottweiler cross despite the best efforts of staff at Black Notley Veterinary Surgery, is extremely aggressive and most common in young dogs from the age of six to nine months.
