Halstead: Residents vow to continue fight to save woodland
9:00am Friday 6th September 2013 in News
Campaigners are bracing themselves for another tug-of-war with developers after parts of a treasured woodland were bulldozed.
A digger has begun clearing large areas of land east of Halstead High Street this week, sparking fears the site is again being eyed for development.
Tesco had previously shown an interest, but its plans were rejected and the supermarket giant later scrapped the idea.
Braintree Council, which is one of the landowners, insisted the clearance of “overgrown vegetation” was to enable a survey to be completed ahead of remarketing the site.
