Halstead: Health walks could be saved
1:00pm Saturday 7th September 2013 in News
A popular health walk could be saved with a grant of a few hundred pounds.
Halstead Town Council was set to consider whether it could support the Heart and Sole walk, which sets off from the bandstand in the public gardens every Monday morning and on the first Thursday of the month.
The walks, which also run across the district, were set up by Braintree Council six years ago but were taken on by The Braintree District Voluntary Support Agency (BDVSA) last April.
In July this year the agency announced it could no longer support the walks after failing to find funding.
Halstead’s nine walk leaders have vowed to try and continue the scheme and Jenny Court wrote to Halstead Town Council on their behalf asking for help.
She said between 30 and 40 people attend the walks and then go to a cafe afterwards.
Halstead Town Council would face no extra premiums by adding the walks to its insurance and estimates the first aid training would cost £270 each year.
It is investigating how much leader training would cost.
