Halstead: County council gives green light for power plant work to continue
3:00pm Friday 23rd August 2013 in News
A power plant development will be given the green light to continue despite fears Halstead lacks the infrastructure to cope with it.
Developer Tamar Energy is in the process of building an £11million anaerobic digestion plant on the Bluebridge Industrial Estate, off Colchester Road, Halstead.
But the scheme has had vocal opposition from town residents and councillors who fear the plant will cause traffic chaos for the town.
It has also been claimed that Essex County Council (ECC) failed to properly consult the town when a planning application for the three-and-a-half acre plant was first lodged in 2010.
ECC’s development and regulation committee is due to meet today to decide whether approve amendments to the original planning application for the site, which was approved in 2011.
