Halstead: Schoolboy on the road to recovery after serious head injury
1:00pm Friday 23rd August 2013 in News
A schoolboy who suffered a massive bleed on the brain after falling from his bike is recovering at home.
Hadyn Vaughan-Peacock, 14, was trying to perform a stunt in the Ramsey Road park when he fell from his bike and landed on his head on August 11.
Two onlookers returned him to his Parker Road home where his mum Mariea and step dad Kevin Johnson were called.
At first it appeared as if the Ramsey College pupil had minor injuries and the first paramedic who attended advised them to continue checking for symptoms that would indicate a head injury.
As the afternoon wore on his pain became more severe, he was sick, had a severely expanded pupil and was becoming harder to keep awake.
On arrival the paramedics asked for the East Anglian Air Ambulance, which landed in the Courtauld Sports Ground in Colchester Road.
Haydn was put into an induced coma before being flown to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.
He underwent an emergency three hour operation for a bleed on the brain and spent the following two days in intensive care.
Mum Mariea said: “He is extremely lucky."
