Halstead could be set to benefit from high-speed broadband after the county council agreed a multi-million pound deal.
Essex County Council (ECC) has agreed a £24.6million deal with BT, which will see 87 per cent of the county’s homes able to access fibre broadband by summer 2016.
BT has put £11.7 million towards the cost of the project, while ECC and the government’s Broadband Delivery UK funding body have each added £6.46 million.
Surveying work by engineers will begin now, with the first premises hoping to be upgraded by June 2014.
Anne-Maree Robertson, chairman of Halstead Chamber of Trade, welcomed the news.
