A schoolgirl impressed judges to make it through to the next round of a national singing competition.

Olivia Dudley-Smith, 13, of Colne Engaine, has made it through to the regional finals of TeenStar.

She sang the Pixie Lott song Band Aid unaccompanied to wow judges in front of other hopefuls at the London music venue Dingwalls earlier this month.

The five judges then offered Olivia, a music scholar at St Mary’s School for Girls in Colchester, a place in the next round of the age 13 to 15 category.

Olivia said: “It’s not like X-Factor. Everyone there was really, really good.

“It was quite nervewracking singing in front of everyone the first time but I had a chance to sing again and I felt I gave a better performance. I’m really excited to be through to the regional final.”

The regional final will take place at the Palace Theatre in Southend.
