A toddler who swallowed a coin had a six-hour journey home from hospital when staff failed to book transport.

Panicked mum, Sara Kilany, 25, had no transport to get Chloe Burt, three, to Colchester Hospital, but managed to negotiate with an NHS Direct phone operator to order a taxi.

The exhausted pair, of Mill Bridge, Halstead, left accident and emergency at 1.30am after extensive check-ups but with the coin still in Chloe’s stomach.

Miss Kilany has criticised the hospital for discharging them without transport, forcing them to trek to Colchester North Station, get a train to Witham, and another to Braintree, before getting a bus to Halstead.
