REGULARS at a village pub were surprised to see their local MP pulling pints.

Bernard Jenkin visited the Thatchers Arms, Mount Bures, to find out what brewers and landlords want the government to do to help the pub industry.

The MP for Harwich and North Essex was invited to the pub, in Hall Road, by landlord Mitch Adams to talk about the budget and what the government can do to help the industry.

The death nell of the pub is not drink drive laws or the people people being more cautious, it is continual taxing of our English past time and yes well said Jess .PUBCO's. Mainly Punch and Enterprise Inns.. Continual TAX and VAT rises along with fuel rises all put pennies on the pint . Going out for a beer should be enjoyable for everyone Pubs are what bring people together. Unfortunately i think within 15 years the local as we know it will be lost for ever

Minimum pricing for alcohol would have forced up supermarket prices and thus reduced competition to the pubs. Cameron wanted to go ahead with that, but was forced to bottle out of it by other cabinet ministers. Where did Bernard Jenkin stand in that debate? If he was against minimum pricing, he is no friend of any pub.

No mention that this pub has been awarded CAMRA Pub of the Year for the 3rd year running. Shame.

Absolutely right Sir Bob, factually, not politically.

An MP pulling a pint - disgusting way to behave. British pubs will be finished in a few years time and good job too.

Community pub? I was not aware this was owned by the community.
Yeah, that's what I meant. But no mention either way.

I think the chairman of Wetherspoon's said for every £15 they earn the government takes £14. Surely this must be the law of diminishing returns

Whilst I believe the government is killing pubs with the BDS and unfair unit pricing, I simply can't believe that quote is accurate. If it is, it can't be true. Can you link to some evidence? No business could survive on such a model and Wetherspoons is one of the most profitable in this market.
