Halstead: Teen volunteer spends holidays in India Halstead: Teen volunteer spends holidays in India

While most people were spending time with family or friends over Christmas, a teenager was volunteering at an Indian orphanage.

Rebecca Rose, 17, of Bullfinch Drive, Halstead, successfully applied for a volunteering grant from the Jack Petchey Foundation.

During her time in India, she helped dig irrigation tunnels and plant 180 lime trees, which will bear fruit in three years time.

Rebecca also helped paint the inside of a pre-school, taught English lessons to young girls and visited community projects, including health clinics dealing with people living with HIV and AIDS.
