Military belts belonging to a brave Antarctic explorer has beaten expectations at auction.

The items, owned by Captain Laurence Oates who hails from Gestingthorpe, sold for £1,100 at Reeman Dansie auctions in Colchester.

They were expected to fetch between £400 and £700 when it went under the hammer on Friday, March 8.
