Halstead: Butchers call for more money for school dinners

Halstead butchers have called for more cash to be spent on school dinners following the national horse meat scandal.

Both Meat Inn at The Centre, Halstead, and Howards Butchers in Halstead High Street, supply to Halstead schools and make their own sausages and mince.

They are among a list of butchers Essex County Council has given the all clear.

Robert Garton, manager of Howards Butchers, supplies meat to Halstead’s St Andrew’s Primary School and Holy Trinity Primary School, Gosfield School and John Bunyan Primary School in Braintree.

He said: “I hope schools are given more funding to buy the produce.

“You can’t make cut backs if you want kids to have the best."
