Lazy dog owners who fail to clean up after their dogs have led to two Halstead ‘grot spots’ being among the worst in the district.

Braintree Council named six ‘grot spot areas’ across the district, including Halstead’s Riverwalk and the King George V playing fields in Kings Road, where there are high levels of dog fouling.

Braintree Council dog wardens believe it is just a small number of lazy dog owners who are spoiling the areas for everyone else.

They have even taken to patrolling Witham with PCSOs to hand out fixed penalty notices.

In January there were 13 reports of dog fouling, five in and around Halstead, five in Witham and three in Braintree.

Councillor Jackie Pell, who is a dog owner herself, said: “The issue has been brought up a couple of times but it isn’t just the Riverwalk.
