A heroic doorman has been praised after disarming a man wielding a knife outside a bar in Halstead.

The bouncer was working at Scenarios and was watching a group of youths outside when he heard someone say a man was armed with a knife.

Chelmsford Crown Court heard how he grabbed the man's arm and shook it until he dropped what turned out to be a lock knife with a four-inch blade.

Mark Ellis, 25, of Vicarage Road, Watford, was arrested soon after the incident in Trinity Street on September 1 last year.

In court he admitted a charge of possessing a bladed article and another charge of failing to appear in court.

Judge Charles Gratwicke jailed him for ten months last Thursday.
