The secret of one of Halstead’s longest marriages is a little bit of give and take.
Lilah and Victor Arnold recently celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary and believe they could be the town’s longest married couple.
They tied the knot at St Andrew’s Church, Halstead, in December 1939, just days before Victor, now 96, was called up to the Essex Regiment to fight in the Second World War.
The couple, of Chapel Street, Halstead, met at a garden fete as teenagers.
