Halstead: New buses to solve travel disruption

A bus company has apologised for travel disruption and hopes new vehicles will solve the problem.

First Essex Buses admitted the fleet operating out of the Braintree depot is quite old and during winter months problems with heating and engines had come to light.

This week’s announcement comes after claims some passengers had to wait about two hours to catch a bus from Braintree to Halstead on January 30.

A First spokesman said: “We are able to counteract this problem by offering support vehicles from nearby depots, and on the day we were able to rectify the issues by doing this.

“Moving forward, I am pleased to tell you that over the next four weeks, we will be taking receipt of 9 new vehicles at our Braintree depot.

“This allows us to cascade out the older and more problematic buses, and replace them with the newer and much more reliable ones.”
