Halstead: Parents stunned by anonymous donation for son's headstone Halstead: Parents stunned by anonymous donation for son's headstone

Grieving parents saving up for a headstone for their four-year-old son have been stunned by an anonymous £1,000 donation.

Mackenzie Cackett, of Juniper Close, Halstead, died last June after a two-year battle with cancer.

Parents Danielle Uren and James Cackett had raised £600 for a deposit on a headstone and had been planning to pay the full £3,500 cost through monthly payments.

But well-wishers at Braintree Council launched a fundraising campaign for the family last month, and Mackenzie's parents were further surprised by a remarkable act of kindness last week.

Danielle, 29, said: “It was bizarre. Someone unknown knocked on the door and just handed us £1,000 to put towards the headstone.

“The guy wanted to remain anonymous but I just wanted to give our thanks to him and express our gratitude.

“It was so nice and so unexpected.”
