Psychic medium Tony Stockwell insists his results are so good his audiences keep coming back.

“I have got a good mix of people who trust me and who have come to many shows, as well as new enquirers”, he explains.

Born in London’s East End, Tony’s first step into the spiritualist world came at age 16 when a friend invited him to see another medium at work.

Since then, Tony has risen to notoriety on stage and screen, including three television series: The Psychic Detective, Street Psychic, and Psychic School.

And Tony, who lives in Wickford, fiercely defends his work in the face of critics.

He said: “People sometimes say the information is just loosely given, but yesterday I told a lady where her parents lived in Ireland to within three miles and the audience got so excited. When I bring people back from the spirit world it is so exciting.

Although some mediums refer to their act as entertainment, Tony is keen to argue for the authenticity of his performance.

He said: “Some mediums call it entertainment, but we say it is part of my beliefs and go down the religious side.

“I am accredited by the Spiritualists’ National Union. We have to sit exams. I have been doing this for 25 years and it’s something I have always done as a spiritualist – it is a real phenomenon.

“A good medium just defies logic. You can’t just work off body language like the critics claim.”

Beyond sitting exams himself, Tony also teaches the next generation of mediums, running workshops and courses from his home studio.

“We take anyone in a beginners’ class and if they have got a talent or passion they go on from there.”

Although Tony welcomes all to his classes, he says hard work alone cannot create a good medium.

He said: “There are lots of people that try and do a wonderful job, but those who have real success have a real ability that is brilliant and exciting.

“It’s like anything – some people can be good singers, others can be exceptional.”

Tony Stockwell appears at the Empire Theatre, in Butler Road, Halstead, on Sunday, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £17.50 each. Call 07778 025490 or visit empire-theatre.co.uk
