A council was left red-faced after sections of a new path were flooded just days after the work was completed.

Braintree Council has spent £158,000 on laying new paths along Halstead’s picturesque River Walk, beside the River Colne.

It now stretches a further 960 metres from Chaffinch Way to the Parsonage Street allotments, connecting to all the existing footpaths.

The council has been forced to look into new drainage ideas after heavy rainfall left sections of the new path covered in flood water over the weekend.
