A retired engineer who was trapped for 30 hours in mountains of hoarded clutter had to be rescued by the emergency services.

George Rainer, 85, was wedged in a tiny space in his kitchen and unable to his nearby phone- which was off the hook.

After hours of trying to contact him his family called the emergency services.

His daughter Cherry believes her “fiercely independent” dad may have Diogenes syndrome, also known as senile squalor syndrome, although it has not been officially diagnosed.
