Halstead: Hedingham school celebrates becoming academy
10:50am Thursday 31st January 2013 in News
A school is celebrating after being granted academy status.
Hedingham School in Sible Hedingham officially became an academy on January 1.
The change means the school is no longer controlled by Essex County Council or the government and can make independent decisions on matters including staff pay, length of lessons and how the national curriculum is taught.
It also means head teacher, John Panayi , has more control over how the school’s budget is spent.
Mr Panayi said: “This is excellent news for the whole school community and a signal from the Department for Education they recognise Hedingham as a good school where students make good progress over time.
