A flood warning has been issued for the River Colne after heavy overnight rain.

The Environment Agency issued the warning, stating flooding was expected and immediate action is required, at 10.10am this morning.

The warning relates to the section of the river between Castle Hedingham and Halstead.

An alert, which warns people to be prepared for possible flooding, has also been applied to the section of the river between Great Yeldham and Colchester.

An Environment Agency spokesman said: "River levels are likely to stabilise and fall soon. Over the next 6 hours the forecast is for no significant rainfall.

"The River Colne is responding to the overnight rain and levels will take several hours to drop."
