Halstead: Severed badger's head found near beauty spot
11:00am Friday 25th January 2013 in News
Badgers are protected under law
A walker made a gruesome discovery after finding a severed badger head near a public footpath.
The member of North East Essex Badger Group found it lying in the snow near Hulls Mill in Sible Hedingham on Monday.
It appears to have been cleanly cut from the body, but the rest of the animal’s remains have not been found.
The badger group has reported it to the Essex Police wildlife crime officer.
Anyone with further information is asked to ring the badger group’s hotline on 07751 572 175.

It is to be hoped that the person or persons responsible are brought to book over the matter.
However, describing the act as being one of 'murder' is not correct.
Whatever the circumstances, the killing of a non-human animal is not legally defined as murder. Murder can only be perpetrated by one human being on another.
Horrible that is, let’s not equate the senseless destruction of a wild animal with the deliberate killing of another human being.
