Witham's resident pop star Olly Murs has been named as an official ambassador for the Football Association.
The former Witham Town Football Club player will take part in numerous events throughout the year to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the organisation.
The 28-year-old was named as an ambassador alongside sporting stars such as Pele, Sir Bobby Charlton and Denise Lewis, last Wednesday. ***16jan*** The former Notley High School pupil said: “I’m delighted be an official ambassador for The Football Association for its 150th anniversary year.
“I’m a huge football fan and will be involved in FA events and initiatives over the course of this year.
“In particular, I want to help to showcase the amazing work The FA does at the grassroots level of the game.”
The keen Manchester United fan has played at Old Trafford in aid of UNICEF children’s charity.
Plans for FA celebrations include National Football Day in August and matches against Scotland, Ireland and Brazil.
