Shoppers are being urged to support their local shops this Christmas.

Braintree Council has launched a campaign to get residents back into Halstead town centre during the festive period.

It has produced a Christmas gift guide and is advertising on bin trucks and bus stops.

Chris Siddall, cabinet member for prosperity, said: “There really is no reason to shop elsewhere.

“Our local towns have everything you could need for your Christmas gift ideas and the gift guide will give you a flavour of what’s available in your town.

"By supporting your local shops you can really help to keep your towns buzzing and support the local economy.”

shop local for ALL my Christmas shopping? ......... REALLY hhmmm please tell me where to buy , a coat,wellies and shoes for a 3 year old , thermal base layers, specialist skin care, ladies winter coat,gifts for the home the list is endless..........,we have the basics here in Halstead but a long way from being able to buy everything and have a choice of style, price and brand,
