The sun has not always shone on the Baftas and bad weather has forced the stars to squelch and shiver their way up a soggy red carpet.

But while Sunday evening is set to be a chilly one, it looks like there will be no need for raincoats or wellies.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said it is “unlikely” showers will reach central London, and although he said he would not rule it out, there is less than a 10% chance of rain in the capital.

He said it would be rather cloudy, adding: “I’d say the umbrellas can stay at home. It’ll be a little bit breezy.”

It could be around 2C (35.6F) to 3C (37.4F) by 9pm – meaning guests should think about wearing a warm coat.

Three years ago a drenched Jennifer Lawrence was one of the big names who struggled through the wind and rain.

She was even forced to borrow a jacket to keep off the chill as she posed for pictures in weather far removed from what she is used to in Hollywood.

Things got so bad that some of the stars resorted to using disposable hand warmers to keep a bit of feeling in their fingers as they signed autographs.

Things reached a real low in 2002 when torrential rain soaked through the red carpet and turned it into foam.

Several stars, including Dame Judi Dench and Kate Winslet, were left trying to repair ruined shoes after slipping up the carpet.

The official explanation was that flame-retardant chemicals had reacted with the rain to create the soapy surface, although host Stephen Fry put the blame on ”years of greasy flattery given to actors which is finally bubbling up”.
